Bankroll
The bankroll is considered the amount of money poker players can play with and loose without it affecting the way of life. For professionals it?s more, for them it is the tool necessary to work and if they loose it they need to find another work. All kinds of poker players need to make sure they don?t overstep the boundaries of what their bank roll can handle. This means primarily not to play too high. A common mistake is to play stakes that are high enough to risk loosing the bankroll in one or a few sessions. Below is a list of standard requirements of what a decent bankroll is.
- In fixed limit games a bankroll of at least 300 big bets is recommended. When playing multiple tables online, up to at least 1,000 big bets are recommended.
- In no limit games a bankroll of at least 1,000 big blinds is recommended to start at a level. When playing multiple tables online at least 3,000-4,000 big blinds are recommended.
It happens often that players risk their entire bankroll, by going on tilt, not focusing on the game or being scared to loose (common when players play too high). To prevent loosing the bankroll because of psychological and physical reasons a player can follow some basic guidelines.
- Be focused and aware of what is going on at the table. Concentrate on the game and your opponents. Leave the game if you are bored and tired.
- Don?t let emotions affect your game (this is extremely hard for many players). If some bad beats get you on tilt leave the game and play another day. It is not likely to change a loosing session to a winning when on tilt.
- As mentioned before, don?t play too high (this is so important it is worth mentioning again). If you get scared of pushing in your money because you cannot afford to loose you play worse than you could and will likely loose money.
