Indian Beach Paradise new Gambling Heaven
Local politicians in Goa, the Indian beach paradise, have agreed to license a number of offshore casinos in an effort to accommodate the huge influx of tourists during peak seasons.Goa, previously a Portuguese protectorate, is the only state in India to allow casinos. This far, the expansion has been limited to one single floating casino. Not everybody in Goa fancy gambling, and there is a fear of attracting criminality. Nevertheless, local politicians state that ten more floating casinos will get a license to operate off the shores of the province.
As a popular tourist destination, Goa sees a large stream of visitors during peak season - more than 4 million yearly guests. It is this influx of consumers that is the contemplated target for potential casino operators.
In the mean time, Indian entrepreneurs are quietly circumventing the gambling laws. In 2007 a local gambling website is hosting India’s first big live poker tournament - in Goa.
