World series of poker 2007

Phil Ivey

From: Atlantic City, New Jersey

Even when compared to some the biggest names in the history of the World Series of Poker, Phil Ivey enjoy is a fanbase that can be accurately described as a rabid. This guy just really knows how to entertain a crowd, which is why he has become one of the most consistently popular of all players on the professional circuit in recent years.

One of the things that makes Phil Ivey such an entertaining player to watch is his utter mastery of the bluff. Any person who finds him- or herself seated across the table from this man must immediately prepare for a rigorous match of psychological warfare.

A native of New Jersey, Ivey honed his skills of mental manipulation by working as a highly successful telemarketer for a number of years. This arena gave him ample opportunity to practice his skills of "selling," which has been such a dominant factor in his poker game play. As he can be consistently counted on to put on a virtual clinic in the art of bluffing, the number of his fans only continues to grow. He has earned a range of popular nicknames, including "No Home Jerome" and, more recently, "the Tiger Woods of poker."

While Phil Ivey has a range of accomplishments of which to be proud, many would agree that the ultimate highlight of his career so far was winning three separate bracelets at the 2002 World Series of Poker. In doing so, he set a record that still stands to this day. Furthermore, Ivey won bracelets in the years 2000 and 2005, both of which came from the pot limit Omaha tournaments. As if all that ain’t enough, Phil Ivey continues to be a dominant - if not entirely successful - presence in the WSOP main event. He has placed in the top 25 for three consecutive years - 2002 to 2005 - each time competing against a larger field of competitors.

And yet, more and more Phil Ivey is turning his attention towards cash games, rather than World Poker Tour tournaments or the World Series of Poker itself. Nonetheless, it seems only likely that fans can count on another stellar showing from "No Home Jerome" this summer at the Rio in Vegas. Because, when Phil is sitting at a poker table, there is sure to be a ton of action and lots of unpredictable twists and turns to every game. You can bet on that any day of the week.
