The highly-regulated UK casino industry has always been very strict. There were limits on things like jackpots, size of jackpots, even which games were legal.
One of the stringent rules was for the game of Roulette. In the past, customers actually had to call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a Roulette game play. Once the reservation was made, they were allowed to spin to their heart’s content. The rules were in place largely because UK lawmakers were afraid that a game like Roulette, with the large house advantage and quick, easy betting would make problem gamblers out of unassuming persons.
But recently, a new law passed that now allows anyone to walk into a casino and play a game of Roulette, no appointment necessary. Though the same type of opposition was heard over and over, the measure still passed and is now law.
The limits on jackpots has also been reduced, thus paving the way for mega-Progressive jackpots like you find in other countries and online.
