Advanced Multiplayer Blackjack
Okay, it was time to spend some time at the blackjack tables again. Since I’m a social animal I took a seat at the multiplayer blackjack tables at GoldenPalace.com. It’s nice having someone to chat with while you brood over your next smart move.
And since you get to see the other players’ cards, you can get an edge over the house. At least that’s what I intended to prove.
Certainly the cards that have been dealt are no longer in the deck. You should be able to use this knowledge in a mathematical model to improve the quality of your decisions. The plan of course is to take the leftmost seat, so you get to see as many cards as possible before it is your turn to act. With three players beside the dealer, you would get to see between ten and fifteen cards most of the time. Hey that’s really all you need to be a winner, I’m positive.
Say, for example, that you hold a 15 against the dealer’s 5. If you notice that most of the cards dealt so far are high cards, maybe you could chose to hit instead of standing with your 15.
So said, so done. I found a place at a table and placed my bets. I tried to chat with the people but no one answered. I guess they were busy checking their blackjack systems. I don’t blame them, that’s what I tried to do as well. At the same time I scrutinized the dealt out cards in each hand to find the pattern that would make me a certain winner.
I’ll be honest with you – like always. Advanced blackjack is not easy. Most of the time, the cards didn’t tell me anything in particular. And when they did, I found it very hard to figure out the proper adjustment to the basic strategy.
Then suddenly in the middle of a hand I noticed that both me and my neighbor had the ace of diamonds. Oh, come on, are they using more than one deck of cards here?! But that means my whole advanced strategy breaks down. I’m a dead man.
Well, well, not to despair. I’ll just have to sit down and polish up my strategy until the next try. In the mean time I kept to my basic strategy and booked a session with a very small, almost negligible, loss. With a polished strategy, there’ll be no looking back for your
